Job description

Reporting to the director of R&D or Manager R&D, the Senior Industrial Designer develops innovative technical, aesthetic, and ergonomic designs, as well as performance criteria for new products within the limits of technical and financial feasibility in response to market requirements and current and future customer needs. He also plays a leadership role to growth the business, be on the forefront of emerging industry practices and supports the development of other associates.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Lead major advance design, participate in VOC, new product development or product improvement projects (complex scope, critical for the business, high aesthetic challenge, etc)
  • Play the role of coach/mentor for juniors and lead the integration of new employees.
  • Support managers to establish strategies, improvement plan and budgets
  • Supervise subcontractors, students, temporary resources and other research projects.
  • Support the implementation of new tools and techniques in order to foster product innovations
  • Remains on the forefront of emerging industry practices.
  • All other primary responsibilities of a typical industrial designer are also applicable.

 

Qualifications

The minimum level of education and/or specialization required is a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design or equivalent in experience

  • Knowledge of composite materials including fiberglass and acrylics, and thermoforming process
  • Experience using 3D CAD software

  • The ability to understand and/or motivate cross-functional project team members
  • Possesses a thorough understanding of MAAX technical (manufacturing, product development, sales, etc) capabilities.
  • Maintains awareness of new and emerging technologies and their potential application for MAAX
  • Remains on the forefront of emerging industry practices.

 

Supervision

Students, research centers, organizations and any other subcontractors

Experience required: 7 to 10 years relevant experience
