Plant Controller

Job description

Reporting to the Director of Management Accounting for the MAAX US Corp, the incumbent is responsible for the planning and control of plant assets and expenses so as to guarantee the quality of financial information based on corporate goals and objectives. Produces financial reports for plants under their direct responsibility (Martinsburg, WV and Plymouth, IN facilities), establishes and analyzes product and production related costs, improves processes, conducts variance analyses, explains discrepancies, and issues various related reports explaining the gross margin, sales, and profit figures.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Produce financial statements and reports, analyze and assess financial results (by plant, cost center and in various reports), and identify budget and expense discrepancies in order to ascertain and ensure profitability; propose corrective measures as required
  • Take part in end-of-period financial calculations, prepare journal entries and perform all work required to close periods.

  • Assists in preparing Management Reports for MAAX Bath and MAAX US Corp as well as quarterly and mid-year analyses of data relating to their respective plants including gross margin analysis for inclusion in final reports.
  • Prepare and analyze the composite gross margin and gross income
  • PLANT: Analyze plant efficiency, take part in corrective measures, and analyze the economic value of plant projects so as to maximize corporate results
  • Ensure that key performance indicators are in place to measure achievement of plant goals, take part in corrective measures to increase productivity, improve work methods, and meet set goals
  • Ensure implementation and adherence to cost control policies and procedures, and compliance with set standards

  • Identify and analyze discrepancies in the standard costs of raw materials, finished and semi-finished products, labor, and general overhead so as to ensure cost accuracy
  • Calculate production costs, ensure that appropriate values are assigned to inventory, provide assistance to Plant Managers and other departments, and respond to various information requests from inhouse departments (Plant, Production Engineering, Value Engineering, R&D, Logistics, Purchasing and Sales on cost analyses and calculations so as to ensure production cost accuracy)
  • Coordinate and perform product costing and BOM validations for all products and plants under his/her responsibility
  • Coordinate, advise, and assist inhouse clients in plants under his/her responsibility in establishment of annual budgets
  • Assess compliance with accounting, SOX and SAP procedures so as to ensure consistency and best results; recommend and take part in corrective measures
  • Take part in various committees and provide support to Plant Managers in daily operations

 

Professional Skills/Qualifications

  1. Minimum education level and/or specialty:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • Member of a professional body (CPA, CMA)

 

  2. Minimum relevant experience required:

  • 5 to 10 years

 

 3. Specific abilities and requirements:

  • Ability to work independently and in a group setting
  • Excellent knowledge of Excel
  • Ability to plan and organize work so as to meet deadlines
  • Strong working knowledge of SAP a must
  • 10%-15% travel to Plymouth, IN facility and possibly Canada

  • V.P. Operations: reports and assistance as needed

  • Provide complete and accurate reports and information so that Executive Committee, Senior Management and/or other departments can make informed business decisions
  • Provide reports to outside organizations as needed (Shareholders and Stakeholders, Audit Committee, and others)
